Winter Bundle Community Coat Drive

The Winter Bundle Community Coat Drive ran in conjunction with The Clothing Closet, a United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley program that offers free clothes to students, families and neighborhood residents near Allentown's 9th Street Central Elementary School. The collections started by filling 1 box in the JFLV office. But it grew and grew and grew...until the end of the drive when more than 700 coats were collected, with a total of 1,000 winter wear items, inclduing hats, gloves and scarves.

Collections flowed in -- and committee members made daily rounds to collect the donations.  Overflowing from a vacant JFLV office. Sitting atop the mound of coats and other winter wear and surrounded by volunteers, is Theo Shurman.
The committee spent an entire morning moving the collected coats to the truck to tranport them to the Clothes Closet at Central Elementary School.  But the truck wasn't big enough!  Overflow was stuffed into minivans and SUVs for delivery.
