In the second session of our Recon 101 Continuing Education course, we will learn about the life and work of Mordecai M. Kaplan and the historical events that led to the birth of Reconstructionist Judaism. We will look into some of Kaplan’s early writings and how he envisioned Judaism for the twentieth century.
Reconstructing Judaism is a modern Jewish movement - but what makes is different than other branches of Judaism? What does Reconstructionist theology/theologies teach? How do Reconstructionist Jews pray? Where do the Jews fit in a pluralistic, globalizing world? How to approach contemporary issues from a Reconstructionist perspective? These are just a few of the questions we are going to discuss in our Continuing Education course. The course meets on the second Sunday of the month at 1pm on Zoom. The sessions are led by Rabbi Steve Nathan and Student Rabbi Armin Langer.
