In response to the devastating earthquake that hit the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, Jewish Federations of North America have launched an earthquake relief fund to provide critical humanitarian aid and life-saving assistance to thousands of earthquake survivors. Thanks to Jewish Federations’ core funding, our overseas partners JDC (American Jewish Joint Distribution Center) and The Jewish Agency for Israel were immediately dispatched on the ground in Morocco to assess the needs and implement an immediate and comprehensive response.
Our donations will have a direct impact by assisting with distribution of urgent essentials including food, water, diapers, hygiene kits, clothing and blankets, providing medical equipment for damaged health facilities and meeting the emergency needs of members of Marrakesh's 120-strong Jewish community.
Jewish Federations have a long and storied history of response to global crises, aiding vulnerable Jewish populations and individuals of all faiths and backgrounds in the hardest-hit places. Funds have supported hundreds of relief efforts in the aftermath of major disasters, from California and Hawaii wildfires to tsunamis in Asia, to hurricanes and flooding in the Gulf to tornadoes in the Midwest.
“Jewish Federations of North America Board Chair Julie Platt said, “Our hearts and prayers are with the victims of this horrific earthquake. The tremendous impact of our collective Federation dollars and our long history of emergency response allows us to respond immediately and effectively in the face of catastrophe. Guided by our Jewish values, we remain committed to reaching out our hands to people of all faiths and backgrounds who are in distress.”
