George Saul Diamond, 90, of Bethlehem, PA, died peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends at Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem. He was the beloved husband of Roberta E. (Schwartz) Diamond with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage on June 15, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Sadie “Sid” (Newberger) Diamond. After graduation from Long Beach High School, Long Beach, NY, he received his Bachelor Degree in English Literature from Allegheny College, Meadville, PA in 1958. Later on, George received his Master Degree from New York University and his PhD from Lehigh University in 1976. A Professor in the English Department at Moravian University for many years, George continued teaching in the decade after retirement in the Executive Retiree Program at Cedar Crest College. A greatly admired Professor, his class numbers to his surprise were always more than expected. His lectures were always so interesting. He could make any topic he was discussing magical. George was the recipient of many awards and accolades over the years including: A tour of Israel for academic scholars sponsored by Lehigh University’s Berman Center for Jewish Studies, A Carnegie Mellon grant to study the Dead Sea Scrolls at New York University, A National Endowment of the Humanities Institute award to study Post Colonial Literature in London, A 2015 Moravian College Night of the Stars Awardee and a consistent A plus grade on the website “Rate My Professors.”  George was a member of Congregation Brith Sholom, Bethlehem and also a member of their burial society the Chevra Kadisha for many years. George was a devoted husband to his wife Roberta with whom he was blessed to travel with all over the world. One of their favorite trips was to Venice where they made many memories. He was the anchor of the family, always firm and dependable. He was selfless and always put his family’s needs before his own. He was firm, but always nurturing caring for his daughters with warmth and patience

Survivors: Wife; Roberta; daughter, Robin Diamond of Washington DC; brother, Martin Diamond of Massapequa, NY; nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends. George was predeceased by his daughter, Allison Diamond and Robin’s partner who he thought of as a son, Andrew Fekete.

Service: A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Congregation Brith Sholom, 1190 Macada Rd., Bethlehem, PA. 18017. A visitation period will be held from 12:00PM to 1:00PM Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Temple. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
