Narda Zimerman

Narda Zimerman, an artist whose vibrant soul, passion for art, and love for people, left an indelible mark on the world, passed away peacefully at her home in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on June 22, 2025, at the age of 87. Narda was born on May 19, 1937, in the old Scottish Hospital in Tiberias, across the road from the Sea of Galilee.

Narda grew up in Kibbutz Ayelet HaShahar, and following her high-school graduation, was drafted into military service, like all young people in Israel. During her service, a chance meeting led to her joining a group for a camping trip. When the entire group met it included a fellow named Zeev, who was smitten by her beautiful blue eyes. When they set camp and it was time to light a camp fire, this fellow dared and invited Narda to join in collecting firewood.

The firewood collection led to a two-year courtship during which period Narda completed her military service and went back to the Kibbutz and on May 31, 1960, Narda and Zeev, who was an engineering student, got married. The young couple rented an apartment, Zeev studied and Narda worked in offices and continued to study in the evenings.

After her husband graduated, he received an invitation to study at Lehigh University. They accepted and in 1965 the young couple came to Bethlehem. When the Northampton Community College opened, Narda signed up and obtained an Associate Degree in General Education. However, Narda always loved the arts and yearned to become a painter. The head of the Art Department at the time, Robert Doney (a wonderful artist and teacher) accepted her to the class where Narda learned how to paint and earned an Associate degree in Art, followed by a Bachelor’s Degree in Art from Moravian College.

Narda continued to paint in her home studio. Her last, incomplete painting was executed in the end of May, 2025. Narda's professional journey was marked by her love for painting and writing, and her innate ability to connect with people. Her art reflected the depth of her experiences and the breadth of her compassion. She participated in many local art shows, where she contributed her talents and shared her knowledge with fellow artists and enthusiasts.

Besides her Husband, Narda is survived by three sisters, Zilla, Nechama and Dvora in Israel. She was predeceased by her brother, Motty.

As we bid farewell to Narda Zimerman, we celebrate a life richly lived and a spirit that will continue to inspire. Her journey may have come to a close, but the beauty she created and the love she gave will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. Narda's story is a reminder that life is an art form, and she mastered it with grace, resilience, and an unwavering passion for all that is good and beautiful.
