Roslyn Gahuse Holtz was born in Philadelphia on January 24, 1925, to Joel and Celia Gahuse. Roz attended Overbrook High School and the Pennsylvania State University, graduating from the university in 1946. Roz worked as a social worker in Philadelphia before marrying Marvin Holtz in December 1948. She and Marvin lived in Allentown until Marvin's death in 2005. Roz then moved to the Quadrangle in Haverford to be close to her sister Shirley Miller. Roz lived at the Quadrangle until her passing on December 3, 2025.
Roz enjoyed making and studying art. She painted in oil and acrylics and was a supporter of local artists in Allentown, helping raise money for the Allentown Art Museum and the Baum School of Art. Roz was also involved in the Barnes Foundation. She took the three-year art studies course at the Barnes and was a docent at the collection when it was located in Merion, Pa.
Roz and Marvin had a wonderful marriage. They enjoyed playing golf and traveling together and they had a large community of friends in Allentown. Roz and Marvin were members of Temple Beth El, the Berkleigh Country Club, the Locust Valley Country Club, and the Allentown Jewish Community Center. Roz and Marvin frequently entertained their large circle of friends, and she was a great cook.
Roz was devoted to her family. After Roz's parents moved to Israel in 1966 she visited them several times a year, and she was in constant contact with her sisters and saw them frequently. Roz was always keenly interested in the activities of her nieces and nephews, and they will miss her love and attention very much.
Roz was predeceased by her husband Marvin Holtz, her sisters Shirley (Mitchell) Miller and Naomi (William) Bristol, and her nephews David Miller and Robert Holtz. Left to mourn her are her nieces and nephews Michael (Donna) Miller, Laura (Marc) Mann, David z"l (Norene) Miller, Janet (Tomi) Hayashi, and Joan Bristol (Randolph Scully), as well as many great nieces and nephews and two great-grand nephews.
