BeAware, SCN’s Introduction to Situational Awareness Course, will teach you how to recognize suspicious or potentially dangerous behavior and threats, and what to do – whether you are in synagogue, at school, or going about your day. Designed for every member of the community, no background in security is required. The course will cover the basics of situational awareness and how to help protect yourself, your family, and your community.

This training provides community members with the skills to save lives by applying emergency first aid to control bleeding.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Understand why bleeding is the #1 preventable death after an injury and how to save a life

Identify when life threatening bleeding is occurring

Learn how to control bleeding when someone is injured and while waiting for first responders to arrive

Guardian Training

Guardians take personal responsibility for the safety and security of themselves, families, and community. Learn skillsets that help you identify, protect, and respond to all hazards, enabling you to become an Active Bystander in your community.

De-escalation Training equips people with the knowledge, skills, and techniques to defuse or reduce tension, hostility, or conflict in a situation.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Explain the goal of de-escalation

Identify the initial indicators of escalating behaviors, both verbal and non-verbal

Demonstrate de-escalation best practices using the Behavioral Change Stairwell to include: active listening, empathizing, verbal diffusion, de-escalation phrases, non-confrontational body language, and facial expressions

Develop techniques for managing personal emotions in challenging situations to maintain composure and clear thinking

Describe how cultural and mental health sensitivity can help de-escalation efforts
